th & 6th Schedule, Bullet train, National Industrial Economic Corridor, Importance of Gram Sabha, displacement in the name of various development projects, on imposing false charges on innocent poor tribal people in the name of
Maoist activities or Naxal menace, deployment of military and Para-military forces in the jungles, suppression of the voices of
dissent, brutal killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh and other progressive social activists etc. More than 12.5 crore people of the
population of India are tribal people or fall under scheduled tribe category. They are the most oppressed people long with the dalit and scheduled caste people. The British colonialists in India had systematically started invading and encroaching in a large scale in
the tribal areas to deprive the tribals of their traditional rights upon the land, forest and water to bring them under the feudal or
jamindari control. Consequently, 100 years history starting from 1765 to the first independence struggle of 1857-58 is filled with
numerous struggles and movements of masses and tribal people against the colonialist forces. Santhal Rebellion had sprung just before the great revolt of 1857. From Kerala to Rajastha, Middle India, Odisa- Jharkhand and till Nirth-East, the tribal masses had consistently fought against the British colonialists and their lackeys. After the brutal suppression of Kol and Sathal Revolt during 1881-1895, the tribals of Ranchi and Sinhbhum areas under the leadership of Birsa Munda had again blew the bugle of revolt against the British Raj in India. The worldwide struggles of the tribal masses forced the UN to provide special provisions to the “Native People” and 9th August was declared as World Tribal Day. But Indian state has made only symbolic laws in the favor of the tribal masses like Land Conservation Act 1970, Forest Right Act etc. Thus the physical and cultural life of the tribals is being destroyed.
Bhojlal Netam in his statement said that in the present critical condition, it is a major task before all the responsible democratic forces to wage a struggle to save land, livelihood and environment. The present fascist government is bent upon selling the whole country to the corporate forces which is a great threat to all the people of the country and the poor illiterate and innocent tribal people living inside the forests are at greater risk as they are unaware of the anti-people policies of the government which give full freedom to the corporate and multinationals to loot and plunder the water, land and forests of the country. Following the trend of snatching lands of poor people, the BJP government of Chhattisgarh has also put forward the Land Revenue Amendment act which is again a treachery against the innocent people of Chhattisgarh. For the time being this act has been put on hold by the government but yet it has not been lawfully taken back by the RgovUernment. The tribal people and democratic forces of the state are continuously fighting and opposing this anti-people decision of the state government. He made an appeal to all the progressive and likeminded forces to make the first national conference of ABM succes.
